WILD & AWARE Girdwood sponsors Bear Week April 22-28
The Anchorage Bear Committee has sponsored a bear educational campaign called WILD & AWARE Girdwood. In celebration of spring and bears coming out of hibernation, WILD & AWARE Girdwood is hosting a series of Bear Week events. Pick up your passport at the Bear Theatre. Complete two activities to be entered to win a bear resistant trash can, courtesy of Alaska Waste.
April 24 Bear Theatre 6:30-8:30 pm @ Kahiltna Court Alyeska Resort
Kick off Bear Week and pick up the Bear Week Passport! Come see the skits, music, art, and poems that Girdwood School students have created. Features select public service announcements and music from 1st grade, and art and poems from 2nd grade Iditarod Trail to Every Classroom(iTREC!) classes.
April 26 – Wild Bears 6-8:30pm @ Forest Service Glacier Ranger District Office, 145 Forest Station Road, Girdwood
Come visit the Forest Service office to see demonstrations about living and recreating wisely in bear country. Learn about the free bear resistant canister loan program. See electric fence demonstration, bear spray demonstration, bear resistant trash cans, and more. Open house style.
April 28 – Meet the Bears 2-5pm @ Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Portage
Learn about bear biology and meet the bears at the Alaska Wildlife Center. Enjoy a lively reading of Blueberries for Sal and Root Bear floats. Enjoy a presentation from Tom Griffin, “Fishing with Bears.” Stay for community discussion on living with bears and how we can make our community more bear wise. Be sure to bring your passport for free entry today.
