Girl Scouts, Women in Science, and the Chugach Capitol Christmas Tree
Employees of the Chugach National Forest participated in the annual Women of Science event held at the University of Alaska, Anchorage by the Girl Scouts of Alaska on Saturday, February 7th. In keeping with our year-long Christmas Tree theme, the girls learned scientific techniques for determining the age of trees, as well as how to identify trees using their observation skills and a dichotomous key. They also learned that the Chugach National Forest will provide this year’s Capitol Christmas tree for the White House and were excited to hear that they can get involved in creating ornaments for the tree. Approximately 150 girls participated in activities led by women in scientific fields from across South-central Alaska.
