Artists chosen for 2015 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Ornaments

The Chugach National Forest, in partnership with the Alaska State Council on the Arts and Alaska Geographic, selected ten Alaskan artists to create one-of-a-kind ornaments for the 2015 Capitol Christmas Tree. The designs of these ornaments will be used as inspiration for 4,000 more ornaments made by students and community members across Alaska. Ornaments will decorate the People’s Tree that will reside on the U.S. Capitol building lawn and various smaller trees in offices throughout the Capitol and in select locations in Alaska.

Each artist created ornaments that highlight their personal connection to the landscape, wildlife, heritage, or ecosystems of Alaska. Selected designs truly celebrate what it means to give “A Gift from the Great Land.”

The selected artists are:

  • Annette Bellamy, Halibut Cove
  • Bonnie Dillard, Kodiak
  • Annie Duffy, Fairbanks
  • Heather Floyd, Kenai
  • Jim Heaton, Haines
  • Rhonda Horton, Wasilla
  • Kristin Link, Glennallen
  • Teri Rofkar, Sitka
  • Maria Shell, Anchorage
  • Sara Tabbert, Fairbanks
Selected ornaments will be on display at the Chugach National Forest Supervisor’s Office in in the Historic Ship Creek District on 1st Ave throughout the month of March.
