FYI: Burn permits on State Lands required starting April 1

Alaska’s wildland fire season officially begins on April 1, and on this date, burn permits will become necessary for the open burning of brush, grass, slash and yard debris on state land.

State law requires burn permits for open burning from April 1 to August 31. These permits must be renewed annually and may only be used on days without burn restrictions. To apply for a burn permit, go to or stop by a Division of Forestry office or local fire department.

This does not apply to Forest Service lands. For questions about burn restrictions and fire danger on the Chugach National Forest please check the Chugach website.
